NJ Haunted Hayrides and Haunted Houses 2026: Sorted From Mild to Intense

Updated: Oct 10, 2026 Short URL: gonj.me/njhaunts

A haunted hayride is the only ride in New Jersey where you pay to sit in the dark on a hay bale and hope nothing grabs you. Some are a daylight roll past a few skeletons that a five-year-old will laugh at. Others are 45 minutes in the woods with chainsaws, strobes and a waiver you signed at the gate. From the parking lot they all look the same.

So we sorted them. Every haunt below gets one of three labels, built from what the operator itself says about age and scares, not from our opinion of how brave you are. Every date and price was read on the operator's own site on October 10, 2026; things change, so check before you go.

At a glance

The three scare labels

  • MILD: daylight or lights on, nobody jumps out at you in the dark. Fine for small kids.
  • MODERATE: after dark with live actors, but the operator welcomes kids, often with a caution like "use judgment under 10".
  • INTENSE: the operator sets an age floor of 12 or older, makes younger teens bring a parent and sign a waiver, or bills itself as the scariest around. Teens and adults.

Where an operator gives an age, we quote it. Where it gives none, we say so.

How to choose: quick answers

How young is too young? Go by the operator's own line, listed for every haunt below. Schaefer Farms says not under 13, Oasis says not under 12, and several say to use judgment under 10.

Hayride or walk-through? On a hayride you sit with a wagon full of strangers and the scares come to you. On a walk-through you are on your feet in the dark with only your group, which most people find scarier.

Do I need tickets ahead? At some, yes: Brookdale and the Haunting on High Street sell online only, and Creamy Acres says an online ticket is the only way to be sure of getting in. Others, like C. Casola and Oasis, sell only at the booth.

What should I wear? Closed-toe shoes you can get muddy, and layers. Most of these are outdoors on working farms.

North Jersey

Fairfield Farms, Fairfield. MILD by day, MODERATE at night. The daytime Spooky Trail ($5, bought at the farm) rolls through haunted woods to meet the Bones family. The Haunted Forest Hayride ($15, online in advance only) runs Friday to Sunday evenings, every 15 minutes from 6:30 to the last ride at 8:45. The farm advises parental discretion under 10 on both. Pumpkin picking, a kid-friendly corn maze and a pumpkin slingshot by day.

Conklin Farm U-Pick, Montville. MODERATE, in daylight. A daytime haunted hayride with a siren and chainsaws; the farm warns it is very loud and suggests it from about age 9 or 10. $15 for children and adults, sold only at the farm the day you visit. No entry fee and free parking. Leashed dogs are welcome on the farm, but the farm advises keeping them away from the noisy ride. Weekends through Oct 31.

Corrado's Hayride of Horrors and Corn Maze, Hackettstown. MODERATE. A 45-minute ride through haunted woods, a haunted house and a night corn maze, weekends through Oct 31; ticket sales end at 10 PM Friday and Saturday, 9:30 Sunday. Children under 15 must be with an adult, and strobes and fog are used. The three together are $55 at the booth (cash only there, more online). Active military pay $10 an attraction. The daytime Dayride and pumpkin picking is $10.

Lentini Farms, Newton. MODERATE. Haunted hayrides Friday and Saturday nights, 7 to 10 PM, with Oct 16, 17, 23 and 24 left. $30 adults, $26 ages 4 to 12, one ride per ticket, no reservations. Guests 16 and under need an adult. The fall festival runs through Oct 25.

13th Hour Haunted House, Wharton. MODERATE. Three indoor haunts on one ticket: House of Nightmares, The Attic, and The Darkside, walked in pitch dark with live actors. Open rain or shine on fall weekends into early November; nights shown in green on its calendar are $5 off. The site gives no age guidance.

Norz Hill Farm & Market, Hillsborough. Age guidance NOT STATED. Scare Farm: two haunted hayrides (Madderbaby Lane and The Slayride) and two haunted walking trails (Atrum Manor and Chaotica). The ticket booth closes at 10 PM Friday and Saturday and 9 PM Sunday. Check the Scare Farm Instagram after 5 PM for weather.

Brighton Asylum, Passaic. INTENSE. Three indoor haunted houses (Brighton Asylum, Subculture and The Bleeding Grounds) that the operator calls the state's scariest. No age limit, but children must walk on their own, everyone signs a waiver, and near Halloween the operator says to expect a wait of one to two hours or more. General admission $47.99 to $52.99, Fast Pass $67.99 to $72.99. A horror museum shows real props and costumes from horror films.

Schaefer Farms, Flemington. INTENSE. The Farm of Horrors: a hayride, a trail, a corn maze and the Carnevil of Chaos, about 45 minutes across more than 200 acres, all on one ticket. Not recommended under 13. Friday to Sunday nights through Halloween; online tickets start at $40 on Sundays and $46 on Fridays and Saturdays. By day the same farm is gentle pumpkin picking.

Central Jersey

Brookdale Haunted Theater, Lincroft. MODERATE, with a MILD tour. The whole performing arts center becomes one haunted maze, built with Brookdale students. No-touch, and the operator says to use judgment under 10. Nights through Oct 30, 6 to 10 PM, $20 early in the season and $25 at peak. Lights On, Scares Off ($10) lets kids walk the sets with no actors and no jump scares on Sat Oct 17 (noon to 2) and Sat Oct 24 (2 to 4). Tickets online in advance only, with a time slot.

C. Casola Farms Haunted Attractions, Marlboro. MODERATE. A haunted hayride, a haunted barn, a living maze and Zombie Paintball. The farm recommends Zombie Paintball from age 5 and says the other three are not for young children. Friday and Saturday nights and Sundays in October from 7 PM. Hayride $20, the three non-paintball attractions $45. Cash only, at the booth.

Field of Terror, East Windsor. MODERATE. Four haunts on one farm: the Killer Kornfield, the Haunted Hayride to Terror Town, Timmery Manor and The Unknown Barn. Open Thursday to Sunday nights through Nov 1, and the farm says Thursdays and Sundays are the less crowded nights. Prices on its site run from $22 for one haunt to $60 for four. Field of Terror

Nightmare at Gravity Hill, Jackson. INTENSE. About 35 minutes on foot through an abandoned ghost town, its graveyard and its haunted fields, built around the farm's real gravity hill from Weird NJ. Under 14 only with a parent or guardian. $35, or $50 for Express to skip the line. Oct 16, 17, 23, 24, 30 and 31 are left.

The Conover Killings, Wall. INTENSE. A story haunt on dark wooded trails, about 27 minutes, with only five or six groups going in every 15 minutes. Under 15 must be with a parent or guardian, and everyone signs a waiver. $30 cash. Reserve by call or text through its site; its 2026 nights were not posted when we checked. Part of every ticket goes to the Autism Movement Project.

Oasis Family Farm, Robbinsville. INTENSE. Oasis Island of Terror: three no-touch attractions, Orange Woods Have Eyes, The Park That Waits and Stalkers. Not recommended under twelve. Friday and Saturday nights in October, $40 Fridays and $50 Saturdays. Tickets at the booth only.

South Jersey

Emlen Physick Estate, Cape May. MILD. Home of Cape May's original haunted house. October brings ghost tours and Scarecrow Alley, and Halloween trick-or-treating at the 1879 estate is Saturday, Oct 31, 5 to 7 PM.

Burlington County Prison Museum, Mount Holly. MODERATE. The Haunting on High Street is new for 2026: scare actors across three floors of the historic prison, ending in a courtyard Halloween Hangout with food trucks and music. Six nights starting Friday Oct 16, 7 to 10 PM. $31 for the walk-through and Hangout, $13 for the Hangout only, online in advance only. There are several flights of stairs.

HallowSpire, Vincentown. MODERATE. The Jersey Devil Terror Trail, a haunted corn maze and a forgotten circus, $40 for all three ($60 VIP). The operator says it is best for ages 10 and up and not for young children, and it can take over an hour. Open nights through Nov 1, gates at 6 PM.

R and J Farm, Egg Harbor. Age guidance NOT STATED. The farm's Cornfield of Terror; we could not find its 2026 nights or prices posted online, so check with the farm before you go.

Fear in the Forest, Pemberton. Age guidance NOT STATED. A haunted trail of more than half a mile through the woods of a working blueberry farm, with themed areas and actors along the way, open only two nights each October. Its 2026 nights and prices were not posted online when we checked; look for its page on Facebook before you go.

Creamy Acres Farm, Mullica Hill. INTENSE. Night of Terror, billed as New Jersey's largest and scariest: the Ride of Terror hayride and three walk-throughs (The Harvest, The Playground and Dark Dreams), $40 to $50 online or $50 to $60 at the booth, plus a Haunted Paintball Hayride ($30, riders 48 inches and up). Anyone under 18 needs an adult, and a waiver is required. Closed Sundays; Oct 15 to 17, 22 to 24 and 29 to 31 are left. The daytime Fall Fest is canceled for 2026.
