About Schaefer Farms

Schaefer Farms is a family farm in Flemington, owned and run by the Schaefer family, who have farmed here for four generations. The working farm covers more than 200 acres, with more than 40 acres of home grown pumpkins every fall.

Fall is the big season, and fun for the whole family. On weekends from late September to the start of November a tractor-drawn hayride takes you out to the pumpkin fields, and the same ticket covers the corn maze, the hay maze and feeding the friendly farm animals. Bounce in Daisybelle the cow, lose yourself in the corn maze, shoot the Corn Cannon and enjoy good food. Quieter Wednesday afternoon hayrides to the pumpkin fields run too.

After dark on October weekends the farm becomes the Farm of Horrors, a haunted hayride, trail and maze that the farm bills as Hunterdon County's original Halloween attraction. It is a high-scare night out, and the farm does not recommend it for children under 13.

The farm stand is open every day. It offers milk, butter, cheese and the farm's own pasture-raised eggs (chicken, duck and quail), the farm's own beef, pork, chicken, duck and quail from the meat freezer, and candy, chips, snacks, jellies, jams, local honey and ice cream. There are more than 100 scents of soy blend candles from the family's own candle company, flowering annuals and perennials for sun and shade, patio planters, decorative bowls and hanging baskets. The farm also sells started and laying pullets, more than 30 breeds, for backyard flocks.

Class Trips & Hayrides

Take a tractor-drawn hayride through more than 200 acres of the working farm to the pumpkin patch fields and pick a pumpkin. Class trips also visit the friendly farm animals in the barnyard, stroll through the mini corn maze and navigate the hay maze, and the pavilion is available for lunch or a snack.

The farm is committed to the proper balance of fun and safety. Teachers ride free, and every tour needs at least 15 children or pays a minimum fee. Dates fill up quickly, so call early to schedule your trip at 908-782-2705, and the farm is glad to answer any questions.

By Day - Fall Family Fun

For 2026, Fall Family Fun runs Saturday, September 26, then every Saturday and Sunday in October and Sunday, November 1, from 11 AM to 4 PM. A scenic hayride takes you out to more than 40 acres of home grown pumpkins, and admission also covers the corn maze, the hay maze, feeding the farm animals and parking.

Wednesday Pumpkin Picking hayrides run every Wednesday from noon to 4 PM, starting September 23 in 2026, with the corn maze and hay maze priced separately.

The farm stand fills with the fall harvest: Country Treasures and fall decorations, the farm's own Indian corn, gourds, kale, corn stalks and straw, a wide variety of colorful mums, local apple cider, fresh baked pies, breads and goodies.

By Night - Farm of Horrors

Farm of Horrors runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights in October. For 2026 it opens Friday, October 2, and the last night is Halloween, Saturday, October 31. Ride, walk and then run for your life: the Hayride of Horror drops you off for the Trail of Terror, the Apocalypse and a haunted Graveyard, then the Massacre Maize and the Carnevil of Chaos, about 45 minutes across more than 200 acres.

It is a high-scare, startle experience with blood and gore, strobe lights, fog, foul language and muddy, uneven ground, and actors may enter your personal space and could touch you. The farm does not recommend it for children under 13.

Admission & Guidelines

For 2026, weekend Fall Family Fun is $18 a person by card or debit, or $15 cash, and it includes the hayride, corn maze, hay maze, feeding the farm animals and parking. Children under 8 and veterans ride free.

On Wednesdays in 2026 the hayride is $7 a person, and veterans and children under 8 ride free if they buy a pumpkin. Pumpkins are $0.89 a pound, the corn maze is $7 and the hay maze is $3, and veterans are free.

Farm of Horrors is one ticket for all four attractions, starting at $36 for 2026, sold online. The farm does not recommend it for children under 13, and asks anyone pregnant, prone to seizures, heart attacks or panic attacks, or with claustrophobia or asthma to sit it out.

Hours / Season of Operation

The farm stand is open daily, 9:30 AM to 5 PM. It stays open later in October while the Farm of Horrors runs: for 2026, from October 2 through October 31, the stand is open 9:30 AM to 5 PM Monday through Thursday, 9:30 AM to 10 PM Friday and Saturday, and 9:30 AM to 9 PM Sunday. In winter the farm closes on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Fall Family Fun runs on weekends from late September to the first of November, 11 AM to 4 PM, and Wednesday Pumpkin Picking hayrides run from noon to 4 PM starting in late September. Farm of Horrors runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights in October; for 2026 it is open 7 PM to 10 PM on Fridays and Saturdays and 7 PM to 9 PM on Sundays.
