About 13th Hour Haunted House

13th Hour Haunted House in Wharton, formerly The Haunted Scarehouse, packs three haunted houses into one ticket, with special effects and movie-quality sets. The House of Nightmares and The Attic make up what the haunt calls Two Floors of Fear, and The Darkside is its newest and darkest: you navigate pitch dark with live actors and animatronics. The haunt changes many parts of the houses every year, so a return visit is not the same walk.

How scary is it? The haunt sets no age limit, so the call is yours, but go in knowing it means dark, tight spaces, strobe lights (not recommended for anyone with epilepsy) and actors who are there to scare you. Your group stays together the whole way through, and if it gets to be too much, tell one of the actors and security will walk you out (there is no refund). It has been named an NJ Top Haunts winner every year from 2022 through 2026.

Everything is indoors, with giant tents set up outside for the lines, so it runs rain or shine. Food and drinks are sold on site. The same building is home to 13th Hour's ten escape rooms and the Haunted Hatchets axe throwing attraction, both open all year.

Tips and Tricks

Wear clothes you do not mind getting snagged in tight, dark spaces, and skip flip-flops, loose clothing and high heels. Bags are allowed, but anything you drop inside cannot be found until the end of the night. On haunt nights, park in the free lot behind the building; the front lot is for escape room guests the rest of the year.

Admission & Guidelines

One haunted house ticket covers all three haunts. Choose general admission, a timed ticket that sets your entry time and gets line priority, or a combo with an escape room or hatchet throwing, which comes with a VIP pass into the haunted house at any time that evening (be at your escape room or hatchet booking at its set time). Tickets sold at the door are general admission only, so buying ahead is the way to skip the longest wait. All major credit cards are accepted, and cash at the haunted house. There are no refunds.

There is no age limit for the haunted houses or the escape rooms. Haunted Hatchets is for ages 13 and up, and anyone under 18 needs an adult with them. No pets. No photos or video inside the haunted houses or escape rooms. Anyone under the influence can be refused entry.

Hours / Season of Operation

The haunted houses run on fall weekends from late September through Halloween weekend, plus some Thursdays in late October. Come any time between opening and closing: doors open at 7 PM and close between 9 and 11 PM depending on the night, latest on October Saturdays.

For 2026, the haunt is open September 25 and 26; October 2 to 4, 9 to 11, 16 to 18, 22 to 25 and 29 to 31; and November 1. Saturdays October 17, 24 and 31 run until 11 PM.

The escape rooms are open year-round, Tuesday to Friday 4 to 10 PM and Saturday and Sunday noon to 10 PM, closed Mondays.
