Tips and Tricks

Need electric and water hookups? There are none here, but Turkey Swamp Park Campground in Freehold has them, along with cabins.

Firewood is sold at the park office, and bags bought online have to be picked up there. Fires go in the fire rings only, and you can gather only dead and downed wood.

Admission & Guidelines

Sites are reserved through the state's NJ Outdoors system, up to 11 months ahead, for a stay of up to 14 nights. Each site holds up to six people and two vehicles, with a $5 fee for an extra vehicle in the overflow area, and it must be registered to someone 18 or older who stays there.

Pets are allowed only on sites 1 to 8 and 13 to 22, two per site, for an extra $5 a night, and you need proof of rabies vaccination. Alcohol is prohibited. Generators are fine outside quiet hours.

Hours / Season of Operation

The family campground is open year round. Six of the shelters close for January and four for February, and the trailer dump station is closed mid-October to mid-April.

Check-in is any time after noon for tent and trailer sites and after 3 PM for shelters, and checkout is noon. The park office on Route 524 is open 8 AM to 4:30 PM. If you arrive after hours, go straight to your reserved site and check in at the office the next morning. Visitors are allowed 8 AM to 8 PM, and quiet hours run 10 PM to 6 AM and are strictly enforced.

The campground is part of Allaire State Park, and Historic Allaire Village and the Pine Creek Railroad are about a mile away. Also in the park are the nature center, the disc golf course, the RC flying field and the multi-use trails for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. The Edgar Felix Bikeway runs from Allaire Village toward Manasquan.

Across the park, the group campground has the wooden Allaire Dinosaurs tucked in the cedars behind it. Manasquan Reservoir is about 10 minutes away, and the beach and boardwalk at Manasquan is about 15.
