A Brief History

The family's tulip story starts in the Netherlands, where Great Opa Casey grew and sold tulips. His son, Casey Jansen Sr., came to the United States alone at 17 and in 1964 started Holland Greenhouses Inc. in Monroe, which has supplied millions of fresh-cut tulips a year to supermarkets along the East Coast ever since. His son, Casey Jr., later joined him in the business.

Casey Sr. had long dreamed of sharing a piece of Holland with the public, and in 2017 the family found farmland in Cream Ridge: the old Rue Farm, a cow and dairy farm for decades. After nearly a year of cleanup, Holland Ridge Farms opened its first tulip season in April 2018, and tens of thousands of people came. Sunflowers followed that September. In 2022 the family bought the farm next door, doubling the flower fields from 150 to 300 acres, and the Dutch windmill, more than five years in the making, now towers over I-195.

Programs / Education

School Field Trips

Holland Ridge runs field trips for schools, youth groups and Boy and Girl Scout groups during the fall sunflower and spring tulip seasons. The 2.5-hour trip includes the hayride, feeding the farm animals, learning how the family plants millions of flowers, a climb up the Dutch windmill to its viewing deck, lunch and play time, and everyone goes home with a free flower and a goodie bag. For fall 2026 the price is $15 per student, with teachers and chaperones free. A trip needs at least 30 students; smaller groups can book a self-guided visit. Things to See & Do

Pick your own flowers. In fall the rows are sunflowers, gladiolus, dahlias, zinnias, cosmos, celosia and wildflowers; in spring, more than 8 million tulips. Grab a bucket and clippers, cut your stems to the size of your vase and pay on the way out.

Ride the hayride. The free tractor-pulled hayride shuttle runs between numbered stops around the farm. Climb the Dutch windmill to its viewing deck for the best view on the farm, and learn the part windmills have played in Dutch farming.

Kids can feed the barnyard animals at the Little Sprouts Feeding Zoo for 25 cents a handful, visit the Big Buds rescue animals by the Bakery Barn, and run around the playground, which has a giant corn pit, slides and swings, with free inflatables on select weekends. On weekends there are pony rides and horse and carriage rides through the flower fields for an extra fee, and in fall there is a small pumpkin patch by the main entrance.

Food trucks are on site every day from 9 AM to 5:30 PM and the Bakery Barn opens Fridays through Sundays, or bring your own picnic to the shaded picnic area and the wooden tables around the farm. On select weekends Blend Bar and Dog + Ram pour beer, wine and cocktails by the food trucks for guests 21 and over. More than 25 floral photo props are set up in the fields, the old tulip museum is now the Moovie Theater with a short film about the farm and the family, and the souvenir shop carries Dutch gifts and farm merchandise. For a private visit, reserve one of six themed picnic pads or a chauffeured gator tour of the farm.

Special / Seasonal Events

U-Pick Tulips: Spring Spectacular - April and May

More than 8 million tulips bloom each spring in the farm's original festival. Walk the tulip fields, pick your own and see the barnyard animals. Early in the season the stems are shorter with mostly closed buds that last a week or more in a vase; at peak bloom the whole farm is in color; by the last week the stems are longer and the blooms are open, better for photos than for the vase.

U-Pick Sunflowers: Fall Festival - September to mid-October

Acres and acres of sunflowers, gladiolus, dahlias and wildflowers, with the hayride shuttle, the windmill, the feeding zoo, the playground and a small pumpkin patch. For 2026 the festival runs September 10 to October 12, with Golden Hour evenings on October 2, 3, 9 and 10 when the farm stays open for the sunset over the flower fields.

U-Pick Tulips: Winter Wonderland - November to January

A holiday walk-through light show with a floral twist: millions of lights, more than 50,000 illuminated tulips, a music and light show on the windmill every 30 minutes, drone show nights, a Santa Claus experience in Santa's farmhouse, hot chocolate stations, and pony rides and a petting zoo Fridays through Sundays. Fresh-cut tulip bunches are sold to take home for the holiday table.

Tips and Tricks

Both the Tulip Festival and Sunflower Festival can get very crowded on the weekend. Best time to visit would certainly be during the week if crowds are not your thing.

Also, both festivals are affected by sun, rain, all weather events. If you want to find the "perfect" day to visit, contact Holland Ridge and ask for some assistance!

Weekdays are cheaper too: tickets cost less Monday through Friday, and stems are half price, 50 cents instead of $1. Pick your flowers at the end of your visit so your hands are free for the rest of the farm. The paths are grass, dirt and gravel and get hard going after rain, so wear shoes you do not mind getting muddy. Strollers and wagons are welcome.

Admission & Guidelines

Every guest age 3 and up needs a ticket, and tickets are sold for an arrival time. For the 2026 U-Pick Sunflowers: Fall Festival, general admission is $17 per person on weekdays and $20 on weekends, with 10% off weekday orders of 12 or more, and children 2 and under are free. Flowers are paid for separately on the way out, 50 cents a stem on weekdays and $1 on weekends, and clippers are provided. Arrive at your ticket time and stay as long as you like until closing; the entrance closes at 5 PM sharp. Tickets can be changed until 9 AM on the day, and there are no refunds.

Pets and emotional support animals are not allowed; only ADA service animals are. Smoking is not permitted and you cannot bring your own alcohol, but picnics are welcome. Pony rides, horse and carriage rides, private gator tours and picnic pad rentals cost extra. Check the HR website for more information.

Hours / Season of Operation

Spring (April-ish) for Tulips, September into mid-October for sunflowers, and November through January for the Winter Wonderland light show.

The fall festival is open every day from 9 AM to 6 PM. Tickets are sold for arrival times from 9 AM to 4 PM, and the entrance closes at 5 PM. For 2026 it runs September 10 to October 12, and on the Golden Hour nights of October 2, 3, 9 and 10 the farm stays open until 7:30 PM or dark, with last entry at 6:30 PM. The spring tulip festival keeps the same 9 AM to 6 PM day. Winter Wonderland is an evening event, with arrival times from 5 PM.

Parking

HR has a large parking area next to the main fields.

Parking is free. General admission parking is just off Trenton Lakewood Road; follow the PARKING signs as you get close. Guests with a valid handicap placard or license plate get their own handicap lot, and a free gator service carries the placard holder and one guest to the main areas of the farm, no reservation needed. Wheelchair-accessible portable restrooms are in the handicap lot and by the Bakery Barn.

Directions

Holland Ridge Farms is at 108 Rues Road in Cream Ridge, off I-195 between New York City and Philadelphia. From the NJ Turnpike take Exit 7A to I-195 east, or Route 295 north to I-195 east; from the Jersey Shore take Route 138 west or Garden State Parkway Exit 98 to I-195 west. Leave I-195 at Exit 11, follow Imlaystown-Hightstown Road to the stop sign and turn left onto Route 526. In about half a mile turn left onto Rues Road and follow the signs for parking.

The farm can only be reached by car; there is no public transportation nearby.

Holland Ridge sits in the farm country of Upper Freehold. Clayton Park, with miles of rolling singletrack through woods and fields, is less than a mile south, and Bullock Farms, with its fall corn maze, hayrides and pick-your-own pumpkins, is a few minutes down the road. The Horse Park of New Jersey is just across I-195, Assunpink Wildlife Management Area is a few miles north, and Cream Ridge Winery is a short drive west.
