About Heaven Hill Farm

Heaven Hill Farm is a locally owned and operated farm market and garden center on Route 94 in Vernon, Sussex County, right next to Warwick, NY. It began in 1982 as Martin Theobald's roadside produce tent beside his family's 365-acre farm, and has grown into a farm market, bakery and four greenhouses, with 16,500 square feet of retail and greenhouse space.

The farm market carries just-picked, in-season produce, local honey, jams and jellies, Heaven Hill's own pickles, cheeses, locally raised meats and a specialty food shop. The bakery turns out pies, Danish, teabreads, cookies and the farm's famous apple cider donuts, and there is homemade ice cream and Italian ice at the counter inside. The garden center grows annuals, perennials, herbs and vegetable plants in its greenhouses and stocks shrubs, trees, hanging baskets, houseplants, pottery, arbors and garden supplies, plus mulch, hay, play sand and propane refills. At Christmas the farm sells fresh-cut trees, wreaths made on the premises, poinsettias and gifts.

Fall brings the Great Pumpkin Festival, which the farm calls the largest fall festival in northern New Jersey: a tractor hayride through the fields to the pumpkin patch, a themed corn maze, a hay maze, farm animals, pig races, a stunt dog show and more than 35 attractions in all, with carnival rides, pony rides and food stands on top. In spring the farm runs EGGstravaganza, with the Easter Bunny, an egg scavenger hunt and hayrides.

The Great Pumpkin Festival runs from mid-September into early November, on weekends and holidays from the start and on Wednesdays to Fridays in October as well. Admission covers the tractor hayride to the pumpkin patch, the themed corn maze, the hay maze, farm animals, pig races, the Dynamo Dogs stunt dog show (three shows a day on weekends and holidays), the giant slingshot, the straw bale pyramid, pedal cars and touring cars, Skee-Ball, the Boo Barn and dozens more. Carnival rides, pony rides, the apple cannons, a paintball range, gem mining, sand art, face painting, wine tasting and the food stands cost extra, and most run only on weekends and holidays. For 2026 the festival runs September 12 through November 8, and the corn maze theme is Celebrating America 250 Years.

Near Halloween the farm holds its Trick-or-Treat Trail, from 12 PM to 3 PM, with 10 candy stops around the farm, 7 of them outside the festival so no ticket is needed for those, and the famous Heaven Hill Farm Halloween costume contest for kids 12 and under at 1 PM. In spring, EGGstravaganza brings Hopper the Easter Bunny, an Easter egg scavenger hunt, an Easter bonnet contest, hayrides, baby chicks and carnival rides over several weekends around Easter.

Tips and Tricks

Dress in layers and wear sturdy shoes, boots if you have them; the ground can be rocky or muddy. The festival calendar on the farm's site rates each day Light, Lively or Bustling from last year's crowds, so pick a quieter day if you can. Buy tickets online: it costs less than at the gate and is the only way to be sure of getting in on a busy day.

Admission & Guidelines

The farm market and garden center are free to shop. The Great Pumpkin Festival is ticketed for everyone 3 and up; children 2 and under are always free, and parking is free. For 2026, weekend and holiday admission is $24.99 bought online ahead or $29.99 on the day, Wednesday to Friday admission (from October 1) is $15.99 online or $19.99 on the day, and a season pass is $59.99 online or $64.99 on the day. Carnival rides, the pig races and the stunt dog show do not run Wednesday to Friday. The festival can sell out, and only tickets bought online in advance are guaranteed entry. Groups of 15 or more get $2 off each ticket bought on one order. Tickets are nonrefundable; if weather cancels a day, ticket holders get a voucher by email.

Pumpkins are sold by weight: $0.79 a pound, or $0.99 for specialty pumpkins, for 2026. Also for 2026, carnival ride tickets are $1.50 each (rides take 4 or more), pony rides are $10 cash, and the apple cannons, paintball range and gem mining are $10 each. Wine tasting is for 21 and over with ID. Pets are not allowed on the farm, only service animals, because of food safety rules. Cash is taken at some stations, and Visa, MasterCard, AMEX, Discover and Apple Pay are accepted; there is an ATM in the farm market.

Hours / Season of Operation

The farm market is open every day from 9 AM, until 6 PM during the fall festival season. The Great Pumpkin Festival keeps its own hours, different from the market's.

For 2026, the festival is open September weekends from September 12, 10 AM to 6 PM; in October, Wednesday to Friday 11 AM to 5 PM and weekends 10 AM to 6 PM; on Columbus Day, Monday, October 12, 10 AM to 6 PM; and on the first weekend of November, closing for the season on November 8. It is also open on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur (Monday, September 21, 10 AM to 5 PM). The festival is closed Mondays and Tuesdays apart from those holidays.

Heaven Hill sits right next to Warwick, NY, and the Appalachian Trail crosses Route 94 just south of the farm. Wawayanda State Park is a short drive southeast, Mountain Creek Resort is a few miles southwest in Vernon, and the Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge lies to the west.
