About Bass River State Forest Campground
The campground is on the shores of Lake Absegami inside Bass River State Forest, split between a North Shore and a South Shore area. Most tent and trailer sites are drive-in with flush toilets nearby, and more than 80 sites on the South Shore are pet friendly. Showers and laundry are within the forest, and there is an RV and trailer sanitary station.
The North Shore has the tent and trailer sites, six cabins that sleep up to six people and six enclosed shelters for four. The South Shore has nine lean-tos that sleep up to six, with pit toilets, and the pet-friendly tent and trailer sites. Six group sites, A through F, each hold up to 25 people, with pit toilets.
Lake Absegami is a 67-acre lake created in the 1930s. The forest around the campground has a swimming beach with seasonal lifeguards, a boat launch and boat rentals, a playground, picnic areas and hiking trails, including the Batona Trail.

Tips and Tricks
You have to sign in for your own site and have your equipment with you when you register, along with the make and license plate of every vehicle. Firewood is sold at the forest office, and fires must be in the fire rings provided. Generators are allowed except during quiet hours. Alcohol and smoking are prohibited. Pets are allowed only on the South Shore tent and trailer sites, need written proof of a current rabies vaccine, are limited to two per site and must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet. They are not allowed in cabins, shelters, lean-tos or swimming areas. Groups need to turn in a camping manifest form before they arrive, and nobody who is not on it is let in.

Tent and trailer sites are $20 a night for New Jersey residents and $25 for non-residents. Lean-tos are $35 and $40, shelters are $48 and $60, and cabins are $75 and $85 a night.
