About Alstede Farms

Alstede Farms is a family-owned working farm in Chester, started by Farmer Kurt Alstede in 1982. The family grows more than 200 kinds of fruits, vegetables and flowers on about 600 acres, nearly all of it permanently preserved farmland, much of it through the state's Farmland Preservation Program. Everything is grown with sustainable and USDA certified organic methods.

Most people come to pick their own. Strawberries and peas start the season, peaches, blueberries and raspberries follow in summer, and apples and pumpkins take over in fall. Pick Your Own admission includes tractor-drawn wagon rides around the fields and orchards, the giant hay pyramid, the tractor tire slide, duck races and the Evergreen Adventure Maze. Kids can add pony rides, a wagon train ride and a bouncy house, and the farm animals can be visited any day the farm store is open.

The farm store is stocked with the farm's own produce plus local honey, homemade ice cream and fudge, pies, jams and cider donuts. In fall the farm adds a giant corn maze and Harvest Moon Hayrides, and after Thanksgiving you can cut your own Christmas tree. There are restrooms, a baby changing area and free parking.

Our Personal Take...

We have not yet visited Alstede Farms. What caught our eye about this location is their presence on facebook. Their interaction with their fans is great. They also share such great information, all the time. Very well done. We hope to be able to visit them soon.

Admission & Guidelines

Pick Your Own tickets are sold online in advance for a time slot, and everyone who enters the fields needs one. Bring a photo ID and the credit card used for the purchase. Ticket sales are final, with no refunds for weather. Pony rides, the wagon train and the bouncy house cost extra, sold separately or together as the Children's Activities Plus Pass. The farm is smoke free, and closed-toe shoes are a good idea in the fields.

Hours / Season of Operation

The farm store is open every day from 9 AM to 6 PM, except Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Easter and Thanksgiving, and the farm animals can be visited during store hours. Pick Your Own runs from late May to mid-November. Children's activities run 11 AM to 3 PM on weekdays. Check the farm's hours page before you go, since field times, the food stands and the weekend extras change through the season.
