Arboretum
Colonial Park (Lot A & F) - The 144-acre Arboretum contains labeled specimens of flowering trees, evergreens, shade trees, dwarf conifers, and flowering shrubs that grow well in central New Jersey. The Arboretum serves as a valuable resource for homeowners, gardeners, and landscape professionals. (more info)
Fragrance And Sensory Garden
Colonial Park (Lot A) - The Fragrance and Sensory Garden, located behind the Rose Garden, was designed to be of special interest to visitors with visual or physical disabilities. The garden appeals to all of the senses. The sunken garden is surrounded by a stone wall and raised beds, enabling visitors to easily touch the plants. (more info)
Ornamental Grass Collection
Colonial Park (Lot A & F) - The Ornamental Grass Collection is located near parking lot A and is designed to exhibit the wide variety of ornamental grasses and related plants available to the public. (more info)
Perennial Garden
Colonial Park (Lot F) - This five-acre garden, located near parking lot F, was established in 1976 by Somerset County Park Commission's first horticulturist Rudolf W. van der Goot. All the plants are labeled with their common and botanical names, making the garden an excellent source of information for horticulture students and enthusiasts alike. Visitors are encouraged to stroll the grounds, relax and enjoy the garden throughout the changing seasons. (more info)
Rudolf W. van der Goot Rose Garden
Colonial Park (Lot A) - Welcome to the Rudolf W. van der Goot Rose Garden! Here you will see roses in a wide variety of types, sizes and colors, including All-America Rose Selections. Whether you are a novice gardener looking for ideas, an experienced rose grower, or just someone who appreciates the beauty of flowers, you will find a stroll through this living encyclopedia of roses to be very rewarding. Suggested donation of $3 per adult and $1 per senior or child (more info)
Shrub Collection
Colonial Park (Lot A & F) - The Shrub Collection is located behind the Perennial Garden. The main purpose of this garden is to showcase plants that grow well in Central New Jersey. The beds are designed to give year-round interest by using flowering shrubs, trees, perennials, and ornamental grasses. (more info)
