About Swing Time Sports Park

Swing Time is a small family fun park on Route 9 in Howell, built around two 18-hole mini golf courses. Both courses were relaid with new professional-grade turf, and they stay open all year rather than closing for the winter, which is unusual for outdoor mini golf in New Jersey.

The arcade is indoors and runs to about 3,200 square feet with more than 50 machines, a mix of older cabinets and current games, playing for prizes. Outside there are five batting cage lanes at 15 pitches a play. A 600 square foot party room handles birthdays and corporate bookings, and there is outdoor seating for anyone sitting a round out.

It is a pay-per-activity place rather than a gate-fee place, so you can turn up for one round of mini golf and leave, or work through all three. The batting cages are outdoors and weather dependent, so call ahead if that is what you are coming for.

A Brief History

Swing Time has been on this stretch of Route 9 for close to 30 years, under a run of names that still turn up online: Swingtime, Swingtime Mini Golf, SwingTime Family Fun Center and The Swing Time Spot.

It changed hands recently and now runs as Swing Time Sports Park under Joe Miller and Lisa Lee. Joe has been running arcades and midway games along the Jersey Shore since 1980. The new turf on both mini golf courses and the refreshed arcade both date from that change of ownership.

Things to See & Do

Mini golf is the main event and there are two full 18-hole courses, so a group can split up or play both. The turf is new, which makes more difference than it sounds like it should: the ball runs true instead of dying in worn carpet.

The arcade is the rainy-day half. More than 50 games across 3,200 square feet, old and new mixed together, with prizes to redeem. It is genuinely indoors, so it works as a plan B when the weather turns.

The batting cages have five lanes and sell plays of 15 pitches. Cheap enough to take a couple of rounds without thinking about it, and open to complete beginners as much as to anyone with a season behind them.

Admission & Guidelines

There is no admission charge. You pay per activity.

Mini golf is $13.50 per person for a round of 18 holes. Batting cages are $6 for a single play of 15 pitches, $24 for five plays, $45 for ten and $82 for twenty, so the per-play price drops by about a third if you buy the bigger block. Arcade games run on a game card. Party room and event bookings are quoted directly rather than published.

Facilities

Two 18-hole mini golf courses, outdoors, newly re-turfed. Five outdoor batting cage lanes. An indoor arcade of about 3,200 square feet with more than 50 games and prize redemption. A 600 square foot party room. Outdoor seating areas.

This sits in the middle of a cluster worth knowing about. Manasquan Reservoir is the big outdoor draw in the same township, and it pairs well with an hour of mini golf on the way home.

For a wet day, Howell Lanes is the other indoor option in the same township. Deerwood Park and Echo Lake/Alfred C. Sauer Park are the local municipal parks if you want somewhere free to run the kids first.
