A Brief History

Cotton & silk for clothing; locomotives for travel; paper for books & writing letters; airplanes, & more. What do they have in common? They all came from the same place - Paterson, NJ.

In 1791, Paterson, America's first planned industrial city, was established, centered around the Great Falls of the Passaic River. From humble mills would rise industries that changed the face of the United States.


Hours / Season of Operation

The following was found on the National Park Service site on August 31, 2016:

As a new national park, Paterson Great Falls is in the process of developing tours and other programs. We offer an introductory tour, you are welcome to view the Falls from Overlook Park and Mary Ellen Kramer Park, and walk around the Historic District.

The outdoor areas of the park are open year-round.

Other areas include the Great Falls Historic District Cultural Center and the Paterson Museum, a partner site of the National Park Service that is operated by the City of Paterson.

The Paterson Museum, at 2 Market Street, is open:
Monday - Friday, 10 am4 pm Saturday - Sunday, 12:304:30 pm The museum is closed on holidays. For more information, you can contact the museum at (973) 321-1260 or visit them at their website.

Welcome Center and Gift Shop

We are open for business. Check out the introductory exhibits, watch some videos, chat with folks from the National Park Service and the Paterson Museum, and visit our Eastern National bookstore and gift shop.

Hours of Operation: Monday - Sunday from 10:00AM - 4:00PM.
