About Atsion Family Campground
The campground sits on Atsion Lake inside Wharton State Forest, across from the Atsion Recreation Area. It has 50 drive-in tent and trailer sites, each with a picnic table and a fire ring. Flush toilets and showers in a heated bath house serve the family sites, and there is an RV and trailer dump station on site. Nine of the sites, AFC 26 through 34, are pet friendly.
The Atsion Cabins are along the lake too. Each has a full bathroom with hot and cold water, a kitchen with a refrigerator and electric stove, an indoor fireplace, a screened-in porch, an outdoor fire ring, a picnic table and a charcoal grill. Four cabins sleep 4, two sleep 6 and one sleeps 8; cabins 2 and 7 are not currently available to rent.
Across the lake, the Recreation Area has a swimming beach with lifeguards from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, two playgrounds, a short nature trail and a canoe and kayak launch.

Tips and Tricks
The named permit holder has to check in in person with ID and give the make, model and license plate of every vehicle. Alcohol is prohibited. ATVs, motorized trail bikes and off-road vehicles are not allowed, and you cannot set up extra tents or gear on a cabin site. Fires go only in the fire rings, chainsaws are banned and cutting trees, alive or dead, is prohibited. Firewood is sold at either park office, and you may not bring your own from outside. Generators are allowed except during quiet hours. Wharton is carry in, carry out, so take your trash with you at check-out.
Pets are allowed only on sites AFC 26 through 34. They are not allowed in the cabins or on sites 1 through 25 and 35 through 50. Register and pay for a pet at a park office, and keep the rabies vaccination paperwork on hand.
Admission & Guidelines
Family campsites are $20 a night for New Jersey residents and $25 for non-residents. Cabins that sleep 4 are $55 and $65, cabins that sleep 6 are $75 and $85, and the cabin that sleeps 8 is $100 and $110 a night.
A campsite holds up to 6 people, 2 tents and 2 vehicles, and must be registered to and occupied by someone 18 or older. The permit holder has to be at the site during the stay. Reservations open 11 months ahead, the longest stay is 14 nights, and a site booked online needs at least 2 nights. Call the Atsion Office for a booking closer to your arrival date.
