Our Personal Take...

We have visited this park many many times over the years. It is such a nice park for all types of activities. We certainly recommend stopping by!

A Brief History

The park was developed in phases. The land was acquired over time, with significant development occurring to transform it into a central recreational and memorial space for the township. The dedication to veterans is a core aspect of its identity, with ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance the memorials. The lake within the park was formerly known as Rowan Lake.

Programs / Education

Hamilton Township Division of Recreation offers various programs that may utilize Veterans Park, including sports leagues, summer camps, and fitness classes. The park itself, with its memorials, offers an educational opportunity regarding military history and service.

Trail & Path Info

The park features an extensive network of paved multi-purpose trails suitable for walking, jogging, biking, and rollerblading. These paths wind throughout the park, connecting various facilities, memorials, and natural areas, including around the lake. Trail lengths vary, allowing for short strolls or longer exercise routes.

Things to See & Do

  • Memorials: A significant portion of the park is dedicated to impressive monuments honoring veterans of World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and specific military units. These are thoughtfully designed and provide a poignant experience.
  • Sports & Recreation: The park boasts facilities for nearly every popular sport: lighted tennis and pickleball courts, basketball courts, baseball and softball fields (including a Miracle League field), soccer fields, sand volleyball, a street hockey rink, and a skate park.
  • Playgrounds: Multiple playground areas cater to different age groups, highlighted by an all-access playground designed to be inclusive for children with disabilities.
  • Dog Park: A fenced-in, off-leash dog park provides separate sections for large and small dogs, with amenities like benches and water access (seasonal).
  • Skate Park: A concrete skate park offers ramps, bowls, and features for skateboarders and BMX riders.
  • Veterans Park Lake: The scenic lake is open for fishing (NJ state regulations apply) and provides a peaceful setting for walks.
  • Picnicking: Numerous picnic tables and several covered pavilions (reservable) are available.
  • Community Events: The park is a central venue for major township events like the Azalea Festival in spring, Independence Day fireworks, Fall Harvest Festival, concerts, and other community gatherings.

Best Time of Year to Visit

  • Spring: Beautiful with blooming azaleas (especially during the Azalea Festival in May) and pleasant weather for outdoor activities.
  • Summer: Ideal for utilizing sports facilities and enjoying community events like the fireworks. Evenings are popular for walks.
  • Fall: Scenic with autumn foliage, and the township often hosts fall festivals. Cooler weather is great for active recreation.
  • Winter: Quieter, but paths are generally maintained for walkers.

Trip Ideas

  • Family Fun Day: Start at one of the playgrounds, enjoy a picnic lunch at a pavilion, then take a walk around the lake or visit the dog park if you have a furry friend.
  • Sports Enthusiast Outing: Utilize the tennis courts, basketball courts, or skate park, followed by a cool-down walk on the trails.
  • Memorial & Reflection Visit: Spend time exploring the various military monuments, followed by a quiet walk around the park.
  • Event Participation: Attend one of the many large community events hosted at the park for a lively experience.

  • The park is large; consult the park map on the township website to locate specific facilities or entrances.

  • While fishing is permitted, a NJ State Fishing License is required for those 16 and older.
  • Restrooms are available but locations are spread out; plan accordingly.

Picnics / Lunches / Eating

Numerous picnic tables are scattered throughout the park. Several covered picnic pavilions are available (some require reservation and may have a fee). Grilling is generally permitted in designated picnic areas, but visitors should confirm current regulations. During large events, food vendors are typically present. There are no permanent concession stands, but areas around the park entrances have commercial food options.
