About Demarest Farms
Demarest Farms is a family farm on Werimus Road in Hillsdale that dates to 1886, and it calls itself the Jewel of Bergen County. Pick your own peaches in summer, apples from late August and pumpkins from late September, as the farm's 2026 schedule lists them. The Farmyard petting zoo has goats, sheep, alpacas, donkeys, ponies, pigs and cows, with a goat swing and playhouse, a zoo bridge, a duck pond and a waterwheel. All ages are welcome, and the Barnyard is stroller and wheelchair accessible.
The farm market sells the farm's famous fresh apple cider donuts, pies and other baked goods, seasonal decorations, produce, flowers and plants.
In October the farm turns into a drive-through Halloween event. In the Halloween Light Show you tour 32 acres of light displays from your car, with the music on the radio. The farm presents it as a family Halloween event. In the holiday season, the same idea runs as Orchard of Lights.

Special / Seasonal Events
For 2026, pick-your-own apples start August 29, with different varieties ripening through the fall. The farm's general ripening schedule runs from McIntosh, Gala and Honeycrisp in early to mid September to Granny Smith and Winesap in mid to late October. Pick-your-own pumpkins start September 26, 2026. Pick-your-own peaches are over for the season.
For 2026, the Halloween Light Show runs September 26 and 27, 7 PM to 8 PM, and then October 2 to 4, October 8 to 12 and October 15 to 31, 6:30 PM to 8 PM. It is a drive-through tour of about 20 to 25 minutes, with the soundtrack on 107.9 FM. The farm bills it as a family Halloween event and gives no age or scare guidance, since it is a light display and not a haunted attraction. Reservations are required.
The farm's holiday light show, Orchard of Lights, runs in the winter holiday season.
Tips and Tricks
The goats, sheep, cows and alpacas love animal crackers, but please do not feed them outside food, which can make them very sick. The Farmyard Barn sells safe animal crackers. For weather-related closures, check the farm's Facebook page before you go.
For the Halloween Light Show, arrive 10 minutes before your reservation time. The farm says you may wait up to 30 minutes between your reservation time and your start time at peak times. Transit vans and other oversized vehicles cannot be accommodated, and you tune your radio to 107.9 FM.
Admission & Guidelines
The Farmyard petting zoo sells tickets, and it takes cash only. There is an ATM on site, and the farm market takes all major credit cards. The farm recommends buying Farmyard tickets a day or two ahead.
For 2026, school and organization groups of 20 or more pay $20.00 per person for the pumpkin picking trip, which includes any size pumpkin, a hayride, a visit to the petting zoo and play area, a cup of fresh pressed cider and an apple cider donut, with admission and parking included. The Halloween Light Show requires a reservation, and tickets cannot be bought at the farm market.
Hours / Season of Operation
For 2026, the farm says it is open daily from 8 AM to 5 PM. The Farmyard petting zoo is open Monday through Sunday, 9 AM to 5 PM, and the last tickets are sold at 4:30 PM. The Halloween Light Show runs on its own evening schedule, listed under seasonal events.
