Howell is home to the Manasquan Reservoir, a Monmouth County park with a 5-mile crushed-stone trail around the water, kayak and boat rentals, and a nature center. Echo Lake Park has fishing and kayaking, a playground and restrooms, and Bear Swamp Natural Area has trails for walking, horseback riding and birding. In winter, the hill behind the Howell Library is a favorite for sledding.
