We have a bit of a soft spot for scenic train rides, and always search them out whenever we are out exploring. We hope this list helps you find a few scenic train rides for your next adventure!

Below we've compiled a list of scenic and family train rides for the fall and winter seasons. We will update this list as we learn about more fun places for you to Get Outside! If you know of any to add, please let us know!

Please Note: Many locations listed below offer limited excursions during specific times of the year. For example, Pumpkin Patch trains in October, or Christmas trains in December. Please plan accordingly.

Cape May County

Cape May Seashore Lines

Cape May Seashore Lines is a short line railroad in southern New Jersey. It offers two excursion services; a 30-mile round trip between Richland and Tuckahoe, and a 14-mile round trip between Rio Grande, Cold Spring Village, and Cape May City.

Hunterdon County

Black River and Western Railroad

The Black River & Western Railroad is preserving railroad history. Located in beautiful Hunterdon County, NJ. Holiday trains include a Pumpkin train, a Trick or Treat Train, and Christmas trains.

Monmouth County

New Jersey Museum of Transportation - Pine Creek Railroad

Pine Creek Railroad is operated by the New Jersey Museum of Transportation and is located within Allaire State Park. The railroad offers scenic train rides on weekends. This fall, visitors can enjoy special Haunted Express night time train rides on weekends in October. Trains run every weekend, weather permitting, from Easter until Christmas.

Morris County

Whippany Railway Museum

The museum operates scenic train rides on select weekends throughout the year. This fall, visitors can enjoy a traditional round-trip excursion along the Historic Whippanong Trail or ride the Pumpkinliner as part of the annual Pumpkin Festival which also features a Halloween craft. The railroad also offers an Easter Bunny Express, Tea with a Princess, along with excursion tours for relaxing throughout the year.

Delaware River Railroad Excursions

Scenic train rides offer a unique experience that can transport you into the past while taking in all of our beauty. Delaware River Railroad Excursions operates scenic train rides along the beautiful Delaware River. This fall, guests can enjoy themed holiday train rides such as The Great Pumpkin Train, and The Warren County Winery Train while stepping back to a time gone by. Scenic train rides run only on weekends.
