Public recreation and open space are vital for the health and well-being of Middlesex County and for the enrichment of the County as a place for living, learning, working, and visiting. To that end, the County provides a public system of major parks, open spaces, and recreational programs and facilities for this generation and many generations to come. The Park System consists of 18 developed and active County Parks and recreation facilities encompassing over 2,900 acres. Extensive facilities for concerts, picnics and both summer and winter sports programs offer opportunities for the enjoyment of County residents. Middlesex County also manages over 7,500 acres of conservation areas and preserves where the public can enjoy passive recreation such as hiking, photography and nature study. In addition, the Middlesex County Improvement Authority operates three golf courses: the 36-hole Tamarack Golf Course in East Brunswick, the Meadows at Middlesex in Plainsboro, and the Raritan Landing Golf Course in Piscataway.
