On November 19, 2016, volunteers with the Mercer chapter of Jersey Off Road Bicycle Association ( S.M.A.R.T. ) worked hard to fix a muddy issue on the blue trail in Mercer County Park. Within a few hours, SMART carted over 20 wheelbarrows full of large and small rocks to the trail. One by one, each rock was meticulously placed onto the trail to ensure a smooth path for everyone to enjoy.
The Blue Trail is located on the northeastern section of the park. It wanders through the woods from the east picnic area, around the boathouse, and up along northern-most fields. This linear trail is a few miles long, and is a lot of fun on a bike or on your feet. Dogs seem to like it as well :)
The goal today was to work on a section of the blue trail located just off South Post Road. This area has the tenancy to get rather muddy throughout the year. With a few properly placed rocks and a bit of time, the rocks will sink a few inches into the ground. And if all goes well, they will build a new base for the trail and ensure the mud finds another place to live.
